1. September 1, 2014 Eleven reasons to come to AmiWest - 11.

AmiWest 2014 kicks off in seven weeks and two days!
Eleven reasons to come to AmiWest

So why come to AmiWest? If you're an Amiga user, there are many reasons. I've been thinking about the reasons I go to the show as well as reasons that others have mentioned to me.

So we'll count down eleven reasons to be at AmiWest 2014, the AmiVerse show on the West Coast of the USA.

Number eleven: 11. You can make AmiVerse friends at AmiWest that you can't make anywhere else.

1.1. Real people

I'm talking about real flesh-and-blood people you can see and speak with as contrasted with online friendships. While online friendships are useful in many ways, in-person friendship takes on a whole new level.

For instance, who would know for sure how fun-loving Trevor Dickinson is unless you have met him in person? I was really impressed with his down-to-earth demeanor and sense of humor when I met him for the first time several years ago at AmiWest. And since many (if not most) of the major players in the AmiVerse scene come to AmiWest, you can meet them too - but only if you come.

1.2. Expand your AmiVerse!

So come to AmiWest. The Programming Seminar starts on Thursday, October 23 and runs throughout the show. The show itself begins with the Classic Clinic at 5 PM on Friday with free food and Amiga technicians ready to help you upgrade your machine with the parts you bring with you. See AmiWest.net for the rest of the basic schedule.

See you there!

2. September 2, 2014 Signups for the Programming Seminar - how and how much

AmiWest 2014 kicks off in seven weeks and one day!
Signups for the Programming Seminar - how and how much

The AmigaOS Programming Seminar @ Amiwest 2014, Third Edition, is taking place October 23-24, 2014 at the AmiWest show venue, Holiday Inn Express Cal Expo in Sacramento, CA.

Here are answers to the questions about how to sign up and pay for the AmiWest 3rd Edition Amiga Programming Seminar 2014.

2.1. How

Please go to this link for more information and to register for the seminar. The seminar registration link is here .

2.2. How much

After you have registered for the seminar, you will receive a PayPal invoice for the $50.00 fee through the email address you provide. We will have the list of those who have paid on site on October 23 so we can provide your seminar materials and name tag.

2.3. Goal

"By the end of AmiWest. . ., we hope to be able to sit with each participant and review their work, evaluate where they are headed and explore how they can keep moving forward. Unabashedly, the goal of these programming days has been to initiate more people into the Amiga development community."

3. September 3, 2014 Who's Coming to AmiWest 2014?

AmiWest 2014 kicks off in seven weeks!
Who's Coming to AmiWest 2014?

It's always something that everyone wants to know. Who is coming to AmiWest? Who will be there to exhibit what they have to contribute to the AmiVerse?

As always, some exhibitors are already confirmed and preparing their exhibits. While some confirm the year before, we're always interested in who is first to confirm their AmiWest presence during the current year. We'll take them one by one.

3.1. First to confirm in 2014 - Intuitionbase

Eldee Stephens will represent Intuitionbase again this year at AmiWest 2014. Here is what he said to us:

"Brian,

I will be attending on behalf of IntuitionBase after all, so I'll be needing a table. . . Looking forward to the show as always -- please keep me in the loop on plans. . ."

If you were here last year, you will remember Eldee's presentation at our AmiWest 2013 banquet of the rationale behind Power Architecture. As a Power Architecture (aka PPC) processor designer of mainframe applications for IBM, his insight into the advantages of Power Architecture were quite powerful. He has managaed again this year to get time away to come to AmiWest. You want to come and meet him at AmiWest 2014.

For not only does he hold several Power Architecture patents - he also has become enthusiastic about the Amiga! Come and talk with him about why he's such an enthusiast.

3.2. Still haven't made your reservations?

You still have time for discount airline rates. And our special rate at the Holiday Inn Express Cal Expo is now active for your use at this link.

We look forward to meeting you. Welcome to AmiWest 2014, the AmiVerse show on the West Coast of the USA!

4. September 6, 2014 Banquet Tickets Page Now Live for AmiWest 2014!

AmiWest 2014 kicks off in six weeks and five days!
Banquet Tickets Page Now Live for AmiWest 2014!

Thanks to Bill Borsari for bringing up our banquet ticket web page form! He's also workking on forms for exhibitors, sponsors, and presenters as well.

Here is the live link to the AmiWest 2014 banquet tickets page. Please reserve your tickets now.

We have retained Sacramento's best caterer this year for our banquet. I have personally experienced five of their events during the past year and they are incredible. We will post the menu as soon as we have it selected. A big thanks to Chuck Washburn for arranging this for us this year (and every year!).

Of course, one of the reasons people come to the AmiWest banquet is our featured speaker. We are working with a speaker right now who will be of unique interest to AmiVerse people. We will announce who it is as soon as those negotiations are complete.

I must stress at this point that our banquet speakers pay their own way just like the rest of us. AmiWest has no budget to pay anyone to speak and has, as a consequence, never done so. So all of the fascinating speakers we have had throughout the years, including the major players in the AmiVerse, have been volunteers. A big "Thank you!" to all of our banquet speakers throughout the past 16 years!

Remember, banquet tickets are not available at the show! We must have the count for the event in to the caterers no later than two weeks before so they can purchase and prepare what we order. We will then invoice you for the tickets through PayPal to secure the funds to pay for the meal.

Don't miss out! Reserve your tickets now! We want to include everyone and that means you!! At $25.00 each for a great meal and an interesting presentation, it's a real bargain. Reserve today!

5. September 7, 2014 Confirmed Sponsor: Hyperion Entertainment

AmiWest 2014 kicks off in six weeks and four days!
Confirmed Sponsor: Hyperion Entertainment

Thanks first of all to all of our sponsors! Without you, AmiWest would not be able to continue. And the fact that among our sponsors are the major players in the AmiVerse makes that circumstance all the more amazing.

Steven Solie, AmigaOS Team Lead, is representing Hyperion this year. Steven has been the Hyperion rep at AmiWest for some time now. He is always engaging and, as the main AmigaOS architect, has the answers to many of the questions people ask about AmigaOS.

We welcome Steven this year and know that, with new developments proceeding on Cyrus Plus, more progress is being made even as I write this post. Time will tell what progress will be displayed at AmiWest, and progress there will be.

Come and see it all in person. Don't wait. Make your travel plans NOW to be a part of AmiWest 2014!

6. September 15, 2014 Eleven reasons to come to AmiWest - 10.

AmiWest 2014 kicks off in five weeks and three days!

10. You can potentially experience the entire range of the AmiVerse at
AmiWest. We say "potentially" because that depends upon who shows up.

6.1. An expanding AmiVerse

Since AmiWest began, new "planets" have arrived in the AmiVerse. Planet AmigaOS NG, planet AROS, planet MorphOS, and planet E-UAE have begun orbiting in the AmiVerse.

This is an amazing expansion, fueled by the improvements that others have made in what some are now calling "Amiga-based systems." None of these efforts are, to my knowledge, funded by multi-billion-dollar companies. All are the efforts of volunteers whose passions for a better computer system often exceed their resources.

6.2. Expand your AmiVerse!

Come and see what others are bringing. Bring something yourself: a favorite configuration, an insight into OS operation, new and / or improved software to show, photos of your setup, - everything AmiVerse related. Bring your AROS or MorphOS or E-UAE setup for the community area so others can see what's happening there. What people bring is what enriches our show.

COMING NEXT: more exhibitor news!

7. September 15, 2014 Confirmed Sponsor - A-EON Ltd.

AmiWest 2014 kicks off in five weeks and three days!
Confirmed Sponsor: A-EON Ltd.

Thanks first of all to all of our sponsors! Without you, AmiWest would not be able to continue. And the fact that among our sponsors are the major players in the AmiVerse makes that circumstance all the more amazing.

Trevor Dickinson is representing his company, A-EON, at AmiWest 2014. He amazed us all last year by investing $1.5 million in new Amiga hardware development, namely the new X5000 Cyrus Plus, currently being distributed to beta-testers. He is also in the forefront of promoting Amiga development through his blog, writing articles for Amiga magazines, and generally encouraging Amigans throughout the world.

But you can't meet him and speak with him in October unless you come to AmiWest 2014. Make your hotel and banquet reservations now. It's not too late.

9. September 22, 2014 Andy Broad to Attend AmiWest 2014

Andy Broad to Attend AmiWest 2014

Just in - Andy Broad to be at AmiWest 2014!
Thanks to a group of AmiWest supporters, Andy Broad, Amiga developer from the U.K., will be at AmiWest! We knew that this project was in the works, but it is now far enough along to announce. Here is that announcement (courtesy of Paul Sadlik).

"SKETCHING AND CODING WITH ANDY...

For the last several years a group of AmiWest organizers have sponsored bringing an AmigaOS developer to each year's show for software presentations and to help users through the programming days.

For the last two years we've been glad to have been joined by Mr. Lyle Hazelwood - the developer of Score, maintainer of the newest AmigaOS versions of Bars & Pipes, the camd.library, SoftSyn and AmigaOS developer.

This year we're very proud to announce we've collected the funds and arranged to bring the Amiga developer Mr. Andy Broad from the UK to AmiWest!

Most of you may recognize him as the originator of the new Sketchblock paint program.  But Andy's prolific coding efforts include maintaining the AWeb browser, the AmigaOS Blender port, AOrganizer, a port of the Perl language and dozens of other applications.

Here's to hoping some of his coding experience rubs off on us during the _2014_ _AmiWest_Programming_Seminar_ . We also look forward to seeing his AmiWest demonstrations of Sketchblock and maybe even his latest (still secret) development project.

See you at AmiWest!"

Here's a link to Andy's page.

. . . and it's only 31 days away. Still time to make your travel
reservations!

10. September 23, 2014 Confirmed Sponsor: Amigakit

Confirmed Sponsor: Amigakit to Sponsor AmiWest 2014

Always confirmed - Amigakit to Sponsor AmiWest 2014
Thanks first of all to all of our sponsors! Without you, AmiWest would not be able to continue. And the fact that among our sponsors are the major players in the AmiVerse makes that circumstance all the more amazing.

Matthew Leaman, Managing Director of Leaman Computing, is representing Amigakit this year. Matthew has been one of our great long-term sponsors along with Hyperion (our first sponsor) and A-EON. We know his company as Amigakit, supplying Amigans throughout the world with the parts and upgrades to keep our classic Amiga machines running.

Amigakit is also distributor for exciting new Amiga products, including the X1000 and even newer projects. Matthew will be at AmiWest in person to sell his support for all of us as we continue to make our Amiga's run at top efficiency. Be sure to visit the Amigakit page for a complete catalog. Don't forget to email to him to tell him what you want him to bring to AmiWest for you to purchase. He often gives an AmiWest discount and you save any and all shipping costs if you pay and pick up at the show!

. . . and it's only 31 days away. Still time to make your travel reservations!
